Senseverse

The digitalisation of our cities is no longer just a trend; it is an ongoing transformation. But how do we ensure that this urban revolution is aligned with European values of sustainability, inclusion and digital sovereignty?

The answer lies in the convergence of three key initiatives that are shaping the direction of Europe’s CitiVerse – the metaverse of smart cities:

🔹LDT CitiVerse EDIC

The first European Digital Infrastructure Consortium dedicated to the development of the CitiVerse. An innovative legal framework enabling European Member States and cities to create common digital infrastructures for urban digital twins, collaborative virtual environments and immersive citizen participation. It is the technological foundation of Europe’s urban future.

🔹 StandICT.eu 2026

Europe is not only building infrastructures; it also wants to follow the game’s rules. This programme funds and supports European experts in creating global, interoperable standards in emerging technologies: AI, XR, data, cybersecurity… Because an open and secure CitiVerse is based on common, ethical and transparent standards.

🔹 Living-in.EU

None of this would be possible without cities. This coalition of European municipalities and regions drives digitalisation that respects local identity, digital rights and the public interest. Living-in.EU is taking CitiVerso from paper to reality, connecting local needs with shared solutions.

Together, these initiatives are building a sovereign European digital ecosystem where technology does not impose a model on us but helps us co-create our own one with values, vision, and people at the centre.

This is also the vision of SENSE, a new European project that turns urban data into immersive and understandable experiences for all citizens. SENSE demonstrates how the  CitiVerse can be a fundamental tool for climate action, urban resilience and social cohesion.

The CitiVerse is not a futuristic fantasy. It is an opportunity to redesign how we live, decide and connect in our cities.
